FROM BASIC TO BOLD: MASTERING COLOR FOR HIGH-IMPACT DESIGNS

GET IT NOW

MASTERING COLOR GOES FAR BEYOND MAKING BEAUTIFUL ARRANGEMENTS.

When you understand why and how color works, your designs stand out, you attract the work you want, and create a signature style that's uniquely yours.

DO YOU TEND TO STICK TO A COLOR “COMFORT ZONE”?

Or maybe, you’ve been working with color for a while, but can’t quite crack the code on blending tones or creating more complex color harmonies…

If so, you're not alone.

Many florists, gifted with an instinctive eye for design, gravitate towards familiar hues and color combinations. Having “go-to” palettes isn’t wrong, but maybe you feel like you have plateaued with color or don’t know how to stretch those color muscles.

Moving outside our comfort zone can feel a bit risky. However, beyond this safe space, there’s a whole spectrum of unexplored shades and tones that will take your work to new heights.

I WANT TO UP-LEVEL MY COLOR CONFIDENCE

UNDERSTANDING COLOR IS MORE THAN INSTINCT; IT’S A LANGUAGE.

When you’re confident in the world of color, you can:

  • Advise on color choices and clearly communicate your expertise in a way that puts your client at ease.
  • Make bold design decisions that set your work apart from the sea of simple palettes and neutrals (not that we don’t love those, too!)
  • Bring your clients' visions to life, regardless of the seasons or challenging requests.

Mastering color isn't just about making gorgeous arrangements; it's about elevating your artistry and business to new heights.

I WANT THIS!

"I AM A LOT FASTER AND MORE EFFICIENT AT CHOOSING COLORS AFTER LEARNING FROM AMY.

And I'm using my color wheel more confidently!"

"ALL OF THIS NEW COLOR THEORY KNOWLEDGE HAS MADE MY PROPOSALS SOOOOOO MUCH EASIER. SAME WITH SUBSTITUTIONS!"

THE COLOR CONUNDRUM:

WHY IT FEELS SO DARN COMPLICATED

In floral design, we face unique challenges that aren't just about our skill or creativity, but about the inherent nature of our medium, flowers.

Working with flowers means accepting their natural, unalterable hues. It's a complex task to harmonize these given colors into a cohesive design, especially when you’re quoting or ordering months in advance without having the product in your hands. This isn't a flaw in your abilities; it's the reality of working with living, dynamic elements that change.

On top of that, the changing seasons dictate the availability and shades of blooms. When the flowers you envisioned aren't available or arrive in unexpected hues, it's not just you; It is an industry-wide challenge, and substitutions are simply part of the game.

Here’s the thing, though:

The unpredictable nature of floral design isn't a hindrance.

It's a canvas for your creativity, where making quick, intentional decisions is a testament to your mastery of the medium.

In floristry, these complexities aren't obstacles, but opportunities to showcase your expertise and adaptability.

The journey to mastering color is about acknowledging these challenges and using them to enhance your artistic expression and professionalism.

It's a path that leads to creating exceptional, emotionally resonant designs that simply set you apart.

In fact, the complexities we face as designers are part and parcel of what makes our work so remarkable!

Are you ready to elevate your expertise and produce colorful palettes that set you apart?

HERE’S WHAT’S INCLUDED IN COLOR THEORY CONFIDENCE

CAN COLOR BE TAUGHT?

In this module, I address the elephant in the room…”Can color really be taught?”

While most floral pros have an intuitive eye for design, color confidence comes from a mastery of the theory, foundations, and vocabulary that can apply to any color scenario.

I also give a brief intro to my experience with color, where I struggled, and how I developed my own signature style, completely changing the game and up-leveling my designs. You’ll get an overview of the course and a roadmap for how to make the most of the modules and supplemental materials.

EXPLORING COLOR THEORY + COLOR TRENDS

Where To Get Design Inspiration From

In this module, I’ll show you unexpected places to look for colors and palettes, both man-made and organic, inside and outside of the floral industry. We’ll also touch on how color impacts us physically, mentally, and emotionally.

You’ll also take a good look at the core elements of color theory and how these timeless concepts apply and continue to show up, trend after trend.

CORE COLOR TERMS

Why is it so crucial to know the core color terms associated with color theory?

It’s pretty simple. Knowing and using the vocabulary and language allows you to properly communicate intricate color concepts and articulate the nuances of your designs to clients, your team, and even wholesalers.

These elements are the “how” and “why” behind the science of color and how it works and will give you the tools to communicate and execute your vision with confidence.

This training is particularly useful for understanding how color works and will help you build strong color palettes that your clients will love and set your work apart.

COLOR TOOLS + HOW TO USE THE COLOR WHEEL

When you see a color wheel, do you:

a) Grab it and immediately use it to build cohesive color palettes

…Or b) run for the hills, because that thing just looks way too complicated?

In this training, I show you two different tools specifically. You’ll gain a clear understanding of how these tools can guide color selection and quickly course-correct palettes that need fine-tuning.

Once you master the color wheel, you’ll never second-guess your orders or scramble for substitutions. It will become your color compass that makes creating dynamic palettes so much simpler!

COLOR, “CORE HUE,” & HUE: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

This training is essential to understanding terms and concepts like hue, value, saturation, and temperature (to name a few)—all core components in need of consideration when you’re creating a palette. Identifying a core hue is a very important step my my design process, and I will show you why.

You’ll get a colorful guide to common tints in the pastel family, common shades in jewel tones, and common tones found in nature (think muted and dusty). I’ll walk you through a variety of examples using flower images to identify how these terms can be applied to the palette and design process.

THE GREENERY COLOR GUIDE

It’s common to reach for something you always use, but greenery plays a dramatic role in your design. So let's get specific! I created a comprehensive guide to my favorite greenery options organized by color, because greenery isn't just green! This is a helpful tool to make more intentional greenery choices in your palettes and elevate your work.

EXPLORE COLOR NAMES FOR RECIPE BUILDING

Is it burgundy or plum? Coral or peach? What’s in a name when it comes to color?

Color names are objective, varied, and based deeply on individual experience, culture, context, personal perception, and preference. This often leads to trouble in analyzing, defining, and communicating about color in our work with flowers.

In this model, we will review common color names to understand how to analyze a color to better utilize it in a palette. In these case studies, we will look closely at common and trending colors like peach, blush, burgundy, mauve, rust, and beige.

12 COLOR HARMONIES TO ELEVATE YOUR DESIGNS

This module is designed to deepen your understanding and ability to create both related and contrasting color harmonies, key skills for any floral pro or enthusiast looking to elevate their designs. From near complementary, diadic, triadic, tetradic, etc. you’ll know exactly how to identify these 12 color harmonies so you can make bold, striking, and compelling designs.

COLOR & THE PRINCIPLES & APPLICATIONS OF DESIGN

While color is the first thing we see when we look at an arrangement, the elements, principles, and applications also play an integral role in the success of the design. Using examples of my work, I illustrate the core principles and elements of design at play. You’ll get a clear visual of how concepts like proportion, balance, depth, repetition, and dominance impact a design. Use these practical tips that can change the way you apply color in your designs!

MY PALETTE CREATION PROCESS

In this comprehensive training module, you’ll learn my step-by-step Palette Building Process. Learn how I build captivating palettes and where to draw inspiration from. I show you how to creatively leverage this process and how to conceptualize building a palette before ever buying a single stem.

From ordering and effectively communicating with vendors to nailing the nuances of color in photos and making smart substitutions, I dive deep into 'Real-World Color Problems’ we face as floral pros matched with practical strategies for overcoming them and creating successful color stories.

I also demonstrate how I use tools to create mockups for ordering and design implementation. Plus, you’ll get access to useful color downloads to help educate your team and hang in your studio.

Whether you’re dealing with ambiguous client requests or challenging color issues, this module prepares you to tackle them with creativity and professionalism.

WHO THIS IS FOR

Whether you’re a new designer just starting to play with color harmonies or you’re a seasoned pro looking to uplevel your skills, this course offers a truly unique perspective on how to use color to create more impact in your designs.

Color Theory Confidence is for you if you’ve ever...

Wondered why some color combinations work seamlessly, while others completely clash.

Found yourself grasping for the words to share your vision with a client or interpret theirs.

Wished you had the tools to make bold and dynamic color choices.

Wanted to build your reputation and business based on your expertise, professionalism, and your unique signature style.

THIS IS FOR ME!

HI, I'M AMY.

My journey in the floral world has been as vibrant and varied as the bouquets I love to create.

From hustling in my studio for weekend weddings to freelancing at the White House and even creating for the Kardashians, I've encountered just about every floral challenge. The most daunting of these was mastering the complex language and application of color.

I remember struggling with color choices early in my career. My arrangements, though technically sound, often lacked adventurous color stories. The fear of getting it wrong held me back, and I found myself constantly reaching for the same color palettes. It was frustrating to feel limited in such a colorful world.

I threw myself into education seeking answers to the 'whys' behind color choices. I wanted the answers to how and why good design works. I gradually began to understand the science and art of color.

The turning point came when I started to apply my observations and utilize the foundations of floral design to take bolder, riskier color choices.

As I grew my color confidence, backed by a growing understanding of the theory behind it, the world of color opened up to me. Everything just fell into place. Design felt even more intuitive, and I became a magnet to the clients I always wanted to work with.

This course is a culmination of concepts and strategies I’ve applied in my own designs and taught over the years to thousands of florists of all skill levels. Within this past year, I partnered with Mayesh Wholesale, one of the country's leading flower providers, giving me the opportunity to travel to 10 different cities and present a workshop that dove deep into color theory. I’ve taken the most critical elements of color theory, combined with the feedback I’ve gathered on the road, and created this course specifically for flower lovers of all kinds!

My goal is to make your path in floral design less complicated and more colorful, helping you to build confidence in your creations and grow your business a whole lot faster than it took me!

Are you ready to dive into the dynamic world of color with me?
